Yayoi History

“Yayoiken” was established in 1886 in Kayaba-cho, Nihonbashi, Tokyo by Tamijiro Shioi, who was the great-grandfather of Tatsuo Shioi, the present President and Representative Director of Plenus, a company with hundreds of branches worldwide.

During those tumultuous years, the nation as a whole was focused on advancing toward modernity. As Japan progressively embraced Western systems, industries, and technologies, the government saw importing Western culinary traditions as a diplomatic move to level the playing field with the major nations of the West. The royal court adopted French cuisine as its official supper, and the Western culinary technique quickly became ingrained in Japanese cuisine.
