Watami History
In Japanese Kanji, WA means harmony, and TAMI means people, so together, they spell out the word Watami. Watami, thus, implies “come together for a meal” in harmony. The name Watami is derived from the founder’s surname, Watanabe Miki.
In 2001, Watami launched its first restaurant outside of Japan in Hong Kong; in 2005, it expanded to Taiwan; in 2009, it opened in Singapore; and in subsequent years, it expanded to additional locations.
WATAMI, with over 700 restaurants around Asia and five shops in Singapore, promises a relaxed and affordable eating experience for consumers outside Japan who want to sample Japanese specialties.
Watami was introduced to the Philippines in 2012 by The Bistro Group, which also runs TGI Fridays, Texas Roadhouse, and Denny’s, among others. Beef Wagyu Skewers are just one example of how Watami has upgraded and expanded its menu over the past five years to provide its customers with a superior Japanese casual dining experience.
