Tenya’s first store was at the Yaesu Shopping Mall in Tokyo Station, which opened in 1989. Yoshio Iwashita, the company’s namesake and creator, took the basics of running a fast-casual dining business and ran with them. Tenya’s Tendon was only one-third the price of comparable dishes at other restaurants at the time. Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines are just a few other countries where they are active.

In 2006, their parent firm, Ten Corporation, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Holdings Co., Ltd. Since then, the retail chain has aggressively expanded into the domestic and global markets, showing no signs of slowing down. Fast food restaurant chain Tenya ranks in Japan’s top 10. With 152 locations in Japan alone, not to mention 11 in the Philippines, 13 in Thailand, 3 in Taiwan, 3 in Hong Kong, and 3 in Singapore, they are a juggernaut in the region.
