Mr. Francisco “Frank” Reyes, a member of Manila’s esteemed Reyes culinary dynasty, founded Reyes Barbecue. The Reyes family has been making food for almost 140 years. Luisa Garcia Cruz, Frank’s great-great-grandmother, was an accomplished chef who had a restaurant in 19th-century Navotas. She was well-known for her “kare-kare,” which earned her the moniker “Luisang Kari.”

In 1983, Frank graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. That same year, he began working alongside his older sister to manage her franchised businesses.

Frank considered starting his food service brand in the early 2000s and centered it around BBQ. He hoped to expand the popularity of Manila-style barbecue in the Philippines by spreading the word about its special recipe, reliable quality, affordable prices, and easy accessibility, thanks to more restaurants. Frank set out on his bike, with his passion and knowledge of barbecue cooking, to visit more than a hundred different barbecue establishments for his independent research.

Frank had established his own barbecue company, Reyes Barbecue, by 2002. Later, he created the first Reyes Barbecue location in the SM North EDSA Food Court using his recipes, formulas, and operational manuals.
