Randy’s Doughnuts may be best known for the iconic enormous doughnut that sits on their rooftop, but the shop is also well-loved for its deep-fried, fluffy doughnuts, and they offer more than 40 different varieties to choose from!
Russell Wendell, a salesman for doughnut machines, established a network of drive-in doughnut cafes in the late 1940s and called them Big Donut. The first store opened its doors in 1951 in the city of Westmont. The second shop, which is still operating under the name Randy’s Donuts, opened its doors in 1952. Architect Henry Goodwin and structural engineer Richard Bradshaw designed the rooftop doughnut doughnut. It is made of rolled steel bars that and covered with gunite.
After transferring his attention to his Pup ‘N’ Taco franchise, which was acquired by Taco Bell in 1984, Wendell sold the Big Donut site in Inglewood in 1976 to Robert Eskow, who subsequently renamed the establishment “Randy’s Donuts” in honour of his son. In 1978, Eskow sold the store to Ron and Larry Weintraub, who decided to use the same name for the enterprise after purchasing it from Eskow.
Mark Kelegian, an attorney and business owner, made the purchase of Randy’s Donuts in the year 2015. Since then, the company has expanded its global presence by opening new franchises in Southern California, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Las Vegas, and the Philippines.
