Popeyes returns to the Philippines with a brand-new international restaurant image, making Popeyes ArcoVia City, Pasig, the first location to have it. Thanks to our cooperative efforts with the Popeyes Philippines team, our nation is a part of this significant moment in Popeye’s history.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Inc., formerly known as Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits and Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken is another name for Popeyes. Restaurant Brands International, based in Toronto, is its parent company. In more than 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 30 other countries as of 2021, they had 3,705 restaurants. The company owns about 50 locations; most of the remaining ones are franchised.

The company was founded in Arabi, Louisiana, a neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, in St. Richard Parish. On June 12, 1972, “Chicken on the Run” first opened its doors. Al Copeland, the owner (1944–2008), tried to outdo Kentucky Fried Chicken, but his restaurant closed after a while. The restaurant was reopened by Copeland as Popeyes Mighty Good Chicken four days later. Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken was the company’s new name in 1975. Beginning in Louisiana in 1976, Copeland began franchising his eatery. In 1984, the chain opened its first restaurant in Canada, and in 1985, it opened its 500th. B. P. Newman of Laredo, Texas, bought several franchises in Texas and neighboring states. During a period of slower expansion, 200 additional locations were added.

By 1990, Copeland Enterprises defaulted on $391 million in debts it had incurred through the 1989 acquisition of Church’s, a rival fast-food chain specializing in fried chicken. By April 1991, the business had filed for bankruptcy. In October 1992, the court approved a plan by a collection of Copeland’s creditors. It led to the establishment of America’s Favorite Chicken Company, Inc. Church and Popeyes will have (AFC) as their new parent company. AFC made its initial public offering (IPO) in 2001 for $142,818,479. On December 29, 2004, AFC sold churches to Arcapita while keeping Popeyes.

They announced a franchise development plan/agreement on August 8, 2000, to establish its presence in the Asia Pacific. The plan/agreement included 35 new restaurant locations throughout Australia. Sydney, the state’s capital, was to serve as the location for all of them.
