Goldilocks, a heroine from the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, was chosen as the inspiration for the name of the bakery chain so that both children and their moms would have an easier time recalling the name of the business.

In addition, the term “gold” and the word “luck” are alluded to in the name, both of which the company’s founders considered fortunate. Once upon a time, in 1966, three women named Milagros, Clarita, and Doris, the sisters’ sister-in-law, came up with the idea to establish a modest bakery along Pasong Tamo Street in Makati. Maria Flor, the third sister, recommended that they call their business “Goldilocks,” after the heroine appearing in a fairy tale collection. It was hoped that this would make it simpler for children and their mothers to remember the bakery’s name, and it was also chosen since it spoke to fortune and success.

Goldilocks opened its first store in the United States in 1976, located in Los Angeles. In 1991, Goldilocks initiated a franchise program, which ultimately resulted in the opening of hundreds of Goldilocks stores across Metro Manila. Goldilocks Bakeshop was a network of bakeries that Pancake House International intended to buy, but negotiations to do so broke down in 2006.

According to recent reports, at least 400 full-service stores are located in the Philippines, 6 in Thailand, 10 in California, 1 in Nevada, and 2 in Canada. In the United States of America, just one full-service store is located in Nevada.
